Professor Tim Buckenham

Professor Buckenham is a Specialist Vascular Radiologist with the Christchurch Vascular Group. Born in Dunedin and educated in New Zealand, Professor Buckenham is a graduate of the University of Otago (MB ChB 1982), and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Radiologists (1991) and of the Royal College of Radiologists in England (1994).

Professor Buckenham undertook specialist training in vascular and interventional radiology in the Middlesex Hospital in London in 1990. Professor Buckenham was appointed as Professor of Radiology at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 1999 and subsequently Professor and Head of the Academic Department of the Christchurch School of Medicine in 2001.

Professor Buckenham is a Vascular Radiologist at Christchurch Hospital. He has considerable experience in minimally invasive treatment of arterial and venous disease, including angioplasty, stent placement. Professor Buckenham also has very extensive experience in the imaging of arterial and venous disease with ultrasound, CT and MR scanning. In addition, Professor Buckenham has a specific interest in uterine fibroid embolisation, a uterine- and fertility-sparing alternative to surgery for symptomatic fibroid disease.

Professor Buckenham has research interests in thoracic aneurysms and vascular imaging.
