Mr David Lewis

David is a specialist Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon. He was born in Bristol, UK and was educated at Clifton College. He graduated Bachelor of Medicine (MB) and Bachelor of Surgery (ChB) from The University of Bristol School of Medicine in 1991. After completing a Lectureship in Anatomy at The University of Bristol, he continued his surgical training in Bristol and Manchester before becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS Eng) in 1996.

David undertook 2 years of dedicated surgical research into the treatment of patients with vascular disease and was awarded the higher postgraduate degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) by The University of Bristol for his Thesis on this subject. He was also awarded a Royal College of Surgeons of England Bursary for this research.

During his further surgical training David spent attachments at The Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and The University of Massachusetts Hospital in the States. David was made an Honorary Associate of The University of Sydney in 2002 in recognition of his contribution to vascular surgical research. David passed the Intercollegiate Surgical Fellowhip exam in 2003 and was certified by the European Board of Surgery as a Specialist Vascular Surgeon (EBSQvasc) in 2005. David was made a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2008 and admitted FRACS(Vasc) in 2009.

David moved to New Zealand in 2004 and is a Specialist Vascular Surgeon at Christchurch Hospital as well as being a Director of Christchurch Vascular Group. He is actively involved in the public hospital system and sits on hospital committees for Quality and Patient Safety, Improving The Patient Journey and Credentialing.

David has a wealth of international experience treating patients with peripheral vascular disease, aneurysms, carotid artery disease, varicose veins and hyperhidrosis. One of his main research interests is improving the quality of care for patients.

He is a passionate rugby supporter and proud father of Morgan and Josh.
